The College, since its early days has been providing accommodation to out-station students in the hostel, which has three blocks (Uttara, Purabi and Malancha). The College hostel can provide accommodation to more than 250 inmates.  A part-time medical officer is appointed by the college to provide basic medical help to the hostel boarders. In case of emergencies, help is also sought from the adjacent Jalpaiguri Welfare Organization - an NGO - to which some well-known doctors and medical practitioners of the town are attached. If necessary, cases are referred to the Jalpaiguri Sadar Hospital.

Hostel Administration

The Principal of the College is the ex-officio in-charge of the college hostel. The College Hostel has a Out-house Superintendent-in-Charge and an in-house Asst. Superintendent supported by a matron. The last Out-house Superintendent-in-Charge has retired recently; the college will do the needful to fill this post within a short time.

Hostel Rules

  • No married student is admitted in the hostel. If a boarder gets married after admission, she will have to leave the hostel immediately. Students failing in Part-l & Part-ll University examinations are not allowed to get themselves admitted as boarders.
  • Boarders are required to vacate the hostel during the Puja Holidays.
  • Abandoning the hostel is allowed at the end of the normal college course. Application for abandonment at any other time must be made in writing with sufficient reasons and submitted through the Supernatant to the Principal at least fifteen days prior to the date from which the abandonment will take effect.
  • Boarders are attended to by the Medical Officer of the hostel free of charge. If a boarder wishes to call in some other doctor, she may do so with the permission of the Supdt. and she is required to bear all the expenses involved in it Sick diet as prescribed by the Medical Officer is supplied free of charge but expenses in addition to it is to be borne by the boarder herself. The local guardian is responsible for removing the sick ward from the hostel, if required by circumstances.
  • There are three categories of visitors for the boarders a) Guardian. b) Local Guardian c) Approved Visitors (3 nos.)
  • Boarders are not allowed to receive visitors in College or in the College compound. Visitors are to be received in the Visitor's room in the hostel during specified visiting hours -Wednesday- 4 to 6 P.M., Sunday - 9 A.M. to 12 Noon.
  • Visitors can meet their wards on Wednesdays. But on Sundays, they are allowed to take 'day leave', twice a month with their specified visitors or local guardian but must come back in the hostel within 6 P.M. in the summer and within 5:30 P.M. in winter.
  • Only the above three categories of visitors may meet the boarder. At the time of admission, the guardian must submit a signed list of not more than 5 Visitors to Supernatant with their (Visitor's) specimen signature and full address with telephone number. Visitors taking students outside are expected to take them personally. In case of 'Night Leave' the local guardians are expected to come in person. If, for any reason that is not possible guardian and local guardians (in the case of L.G. specified visitors) are required to send escorts with letter of authority written (not merely singed) by legal guardian.
  • One "Night Leave" is allowed every month.
  • The local guardian must have to be a married person living with the members of the family in Jalpaiguri. In case of illness or any emergency, he/she must be prepared to remove his/her ward from the hostel. A person can be the local guardian of a single hostel resident.
  • The Name of the boarders spending the night outside the hostel without any permission of the Supernatant will be struck off the rolls and in no case will be allowed to stay in the hostel.
    • Boarders are required to pay the following monthly charges to be paid at a time one year at the time of admission into the hostel.

      i)Seat Rent - Rs. 20.00 x12 = 240.00
      ii) Establishment fee - Rs. 50.00 x 12 = 600.00
      iii) Electricity charges - Rs. 100.00 x 12 = 1200.00
      iv) Telephone charges - Rs. 5.00 x 12 = 60.00
      v) Contingency - Rs. 50.00 x 12 = 600.00
      vi) Generator Charges - Rs. 30.00 x 12 = 360.00
      vii) Development Charges - Rs. 30.00 x 12 = 360.00
    • The boarders are required to pay the monthly mess charge of Rs.1000/-, Guest Students are to pay Rs. 50/- per day as guest charges.
    • Besides these monthly charges every boarder is required to pay Rs. 50/- as Hostel Admission fee and Rs.10/- as vacation charge at the time of admission.

      N. B : All these fees and charges are subject to change as per the discretion of the G.B. of the college.
  • Guardians are requested to pay the food charges within the 10th of every month positively.
  • There is a Mess Management Committee consisting of members elected by the boarders. Its functions are determined by the Supdt., the Ex-officio President of the Committee.
  • Boarders shall have to put the lights off in their rooms by 10:30 P.M. ordinarily (except examinations time). After Roll Call, no student will be allowed to leave the building at which she resides.
  • Attendance is taken at 6:30 P.M. daily in summer and at 5:30 P.M. in winter.
  • Boarders are required to bring their own beds, plates, cups, drinking glasses etc. and other personal requirements.
  • Wastage of electricity and water is strictly prohibited.
  • No meeting or demonstration shall be held within the premises without a written permission from the superintendant.
  • Boarders are expected to take active parts in the hostel activities.
  • The hostel Sub-Committee may alter, amend or withdraw any rules or introduce new rules, if necessary.
